Great Great Uncle George's Stamp Collection
My great great uncle, George Plinke (1858-1930) grew up on a horse farm
in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, and worked most of his life in the
post office there. He was a keen philatelist, and in 1902 purchased the
"International Postage Stamp Album, Nineteenth Century Edition"
to order and present his collection. In a way that is unimaginable today,
every stamp ever issued had a place in the album, and George
was able to fill many of those spaces.
Empty space in the album was filled during the twentieth century by
George's son George Jr. (1898-1952). I would like to thank George Jr.
for willing the collection to my brother Fred and I, who added some
modern stamps. Here are some of my favourites from the
collection, the stamps which are beautiful, interesting, or even
simply very clean. The stamps above are thumbnail images at 100 dpi,
but for each of these there is a very detailed image at 600 dpi.

The front of the album has some maps of the world from 1900,
when the album was published. These may help to locate less
well-known countries such as Labuan
or Nyassa.
