A Pasadena Stroll
Practical Information
Here is some practical information about how to do the
Pasadena Stroll, a pleasant walk through
some of the best parts of Pasadena.
We begin at the Pacific-Asia Museum at Union and Los Robles.
Driving Directions
(You might want to check the traffic conditions before you set out).
- From the Pasadena Freeway (110), take the freeway to the end, where
there is a traffic signal. Turn right. The second light is Los Robles:
turn left. Go about 2 miles to Colorado Blvd, and the next street is Union.
- From the 134 Freeway, continue until it becomes the 210 East, and take
the Fair Oaks exit. Continue on the service road, parallel to the freeway,
then turn right on Los Robles. Union Street is the second light.
- If you are heading west on the 210, take the Lake Avenue exit, turn
left, then right at Union St. The fourth light is Los Robles.
Parking
Free parking is available at the Pasadena Plaza on Colorado Blvd,
and at several
businesses with entrances on Union St. Driving aimlessly for two or
three blocks will find a curb-side space. You can also pay
for parking at the south-east corner of Los Robles and Union, right next to
the Pacific-Asia Museum.
Other Information
- The Pacific-Asia museum is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10 to 5, and
costs $4 for adults, 46 N. Los Robles Avenue, (626) 449-2742.
- The Norton
Simon museum is open Thursday to Sunday, Noon to 5, and
costs $4 for adults, 411 Colorado Blvd, (626) 449-6840.
- The shops in Old Town are generally open until 9pm, and some until 11pm.
- There are two cinemas in Old Town,
The Marketplace at Colorado and de Lacey, and the
AMC 8-plex deep under the One Colorado plaza; for showtimes see the
Pasadena Area
Film Guide from Caltech, or the more general
movielink.com.
- Refreshment at the west (Old Town) end of the walk is plentiful, but
at the east end less so. I would recommend the Higher Grounds
coffee shop, which adjoins the Fuller Seminary Bookstore at the
north-east corner of Los Robles and Union. For more substantial fare,
there are two good restaurants at the south end of Plaza Las Fuentes.
